Velocity Crossing, Austin, Texas, New 400 Acre Mixed Use Masterplan of Retail, Residential, Hospitality, Corporate and Medical Office, Light Industrial Facilities, Arts and Entertainment. The site is located on the Southwest section of Austin at the crossing of State Highways 71 and 130, 1.5 miles from the Airport and it will be connected by light rail to the Airport and downtown Austin in 2020. The masterplan looks to continue the unique nature of Austin being the entertainment destination of the Southwest specifically for Music and other entertainment venues. The site is designed to host both small and large venues and be a participating site in its internationally acclaimed festivals such as South by south West and Austin City Limits. Austin is one of the places that is about individual expression, “unbranded” commercial and a culture that connects interior and exterior spaces to the street which represents an openness and cultural position, unique among cities in the United States. The design incorporates the natural setting and threads this through the project to connect the natural systems with the new planned social activity to give this “development an urban environment despite the fact that it is planned outside the existing city center.
